Sushi Kadan is a cozy sushi spot tucked away on Old Denton Road in Carrollton, offering a quiet retreat from the usual lunch or dinner hustle. This is a full-service sushi restaurant where the focus is clearly on delivering fresh fish with careful attention to presentation and quality, making it well-suited for casual meals that appreciate the craft of sushi making.

The interior feels intimate and quiet, enhanced by low lighting and subtle decorative touches like small trees that resonate especially well during cooler months or holiday seasons. The space is relatively small, which creates a compact but comfortable dining experience where you can watch sushi rolls being assembled through an open view of the sushi bar. The service style here uses a call bell system at the table, so it’s best to be ready when you want to place your order or ask for assistance. This setup keeps the experience personal but requires a bit of attentiveness from diners.

Menu highlights reveal a broad range of sushi rolls and donburi bowls, including rolls with creative names like Crunch Unagi Roll, Volcano Roll, Mango Paradise Roll, and options like Beef Teriyaki Bento or Tuna & Salmon Don. This variety caters both to those who want something familiar and those looking to try something with a bit more flair. The fish quality is consistently fresh, and the portions can be generous—it’s common for guests to find the bento boxes more than enough for two people to share comfortably.

If you’re coming for lunch or dinner, Sushi Kadan works well for a laid-back date night, a solo sushi craving, or a quiet meal out with friends. The atmosphere is neither loud nor overly formal, which draws a crowd that appreciates a relaxed pace without sacrificing the quality of their sushi. The ability to see the food made fresh behind the counter adds an interactive element to the meal.

  • Best for: Sushi lovers looking for fresh, well-crafted rolls and donburi in a low-key setting.
  • Who will enjoy it: Couples, small groups, or solo diners who prefer a calm dining vibe and personal service.
  • When to visit: Lunch or dinner, particularly on cooler days when the cozy atmosphere stands out more.
  • Atmosphere: Intimate, softly lit, with a subtle nod to Japanese culture in the decor; casual but thoughtful service using a call bell.

Overall, Sushi Kadan delivers a straightforward sushi experience tailored for locals who appreciate freshness and a quiet meal over flashier sushi bars or larger restaurants. It’s a spot where the small details—like a cut orange shaped like a bear or prompt service once you signal—make a difference in the dining flow, rounding out a down-to-earth Japanese meal in Carrollton.

We tried Sushi Kadan and overall had a really good experience. We ordered several rolls: Crazy Mama, Mr. Lee, Mango Roll, Las Vegas, and Crunchy Dynamite. All the rolls came out quickly, which was nice, and the presentation was clean. The fish tasted fresh and flavorful, and you could tell they use quality ingredients. We had also ordered the Crazy Girl Roll, but it ended up being sent to another table by mistake. At first, the server who brought out our food insisted it had been given to us, but after checking they realized it was a mix-up and removed it from our bill without issue. I appreciated that they corrected the mistake fairly quickly. For dessert, we tried the Tempura Ice Cream. It was a fun treat with a nice crunch, though they topped it with Hershey’s syrup, which didn’t really pair well with the ice cream. A different sauce would have complemented it better. The staff overall was friendly and upfront — they even let us know when the kitchen was closing, which we appreciated. The waiter also made sure to point out which menu items contained pork once he learned we don’t eat it, which showed real awareness and care toward the Muslim diet. That was a very nice touch and made us feel more comfortable ordering. At the same time, there were a couple of service hiccups. We had to call a waiter over because dishes were starting to pile up on our table, and water wasn’t brought out until almost the end of the meal — and even then, it came without straws. That said, the ambience was beautiful. The restaurant had these elegant decorative trees that gave the whole place a warm and inviting feel, which made the experience even better.

Partner and I stopped in for bento boxes for lunch and generally had a pleasant time! First off, the atmosphere was very cozy on a cold day, with low lighting and a few trees inside decorated for Christmas. We were served promptly and each got a bento, both around $13-14. Let me tell you, for that price, we got a LOT of food. We easily could’ve shared. Each came with salad, two gyoza, 4 California rolls, 3 pieces of tempura, some tater tots, and the main course that you chose. Ours came with a LOT of rice and cabbage under our meat. So value for money is no question great here. I’d say everything in the bento was okay. The tonkotsu was almost burnt and the crust had no flavor, but it was alright. The salad dressing was very lemony, but everything was mostly bland or uninteresting. Definitely filling though! Overall, I think we would return. I just wouldn’t expect the best food you’ve ever had!

My favorite sushi place so far! The ambiance and decorations are really cute. We walked in and were sat in less than 2 minutes. The owner/manager greeted us and was really involved throughout the restaurant with the servers. We ordered tempura and 3 sushi rolls. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the rolls and the manager even offered us a cute orange cut into the shape of a bear! Service was 10/10. Would come back!!

The service members are all very nice and quick to stop by when you ring your table’s bell. Note: you must ring the bell when you’re ready to order or need anything - that’s how it’s set up, so don’t get thrown off when they don’t come by without you ringing the bell. There were lots of sushi options. We got the Mango Paradise, Dallas Cowboy, Romantic, and the Oishi rolls. It was all pretty good. I was excited for the Oishi, rolled with cucumber, but it didn’t stay in tact like other cucumber wrapped rolls I’ve had. All of the plated presentations were nice. They have oven baked sushi I’d like to try some time. We also got spicy edamame, which may be a good option if you like spicy food. There are white flowering trees for decor, making it look pretty inside.

The atmosphere here is amazing and feels like you’re being submerged in the culture. I really liked that part. The food I ordered was a bit flavorless and took a lot of doctoring for it to taste decent. Their service depends on a button which I’d a bit different, but it works here because it’s a relatively small restaurant. I like how you can see what is being made as well.

1st timer! Walked in and I loved the atmosphere and the layout. Sat down and I wasn’t sure how the service worked. Our waitress came by and I mentioned that it was our first time and asked what she would recommend, zero response, just said “What do you want?” We ordered edamame, really good. Vancouver roll- my favorite and highly recommend. Crunch Philadelphia roll and this was just as good. Overall food was amazing and I’ll be back but defiantly need to work on service.

This place is fantastic; it wraps you in the atmosphere of a Japanese garden, with the freshest and most delicious food. I go to this place every week for their Mango Paradise sushi — it has become not only my favorite, but also my best friend’s and my boyfriend’s. I’ve been trying new dishes, and I’ve liked all of them. It’s one of the best Japanese restaurants in Dallas — highly recommended!!
